Massage, Bodywork & Vibroacoustic Therapy: Which Experience Is Right for You?
Massage, Bodywork & Vibroacoustic Therapy: Which Experience Is Right for You?
Sometimes you come in with a specific area that needs attention. Sometimes you want a full-body massage and time to unwind. Other times, you want to settle into an experience without receiving massage at all.
Those are different goals, and they deserve different approaches.
That’s the thinking behind the experiences at The Traveling Sole. Just as massage can serve different purposes, so can Vibroacoustic Therapy (VAT). The techniques, pace, areas receiving attention, and timing of VAT all help shape the session.
Targeted Bodywork
Attention where you need it
Targeted Bodywork is intended for a specific concern and the related areas that may be contributing to it. We devote our time to that concern rather than following a full-body sequence.
This is not a full-body massage.
Depending on what we’re addressing, I may use my feet, hands, sustained pressure, stretching, or techniques that combine pressure with movement. You may change positions, move a limb, or participate in parts of the work.
Although you may feel relaxed afterward, the priority is focused therapeutic work. The session can involve more movement and participation than a relaxation-focused experience.
Targeted Bodywork is available in 30, 60, or 90 minutes. Having more time gives us room to work with the concern and connected areas without rushing.
How VAT fits into Targeted Bodywork
Before bodywork
I use VAT with the intention of helping you settle and soften before the work begins. If you arrive feeling tense or ready to brace against pressure, this provides time to become comfortable before receiving bodywork.
During bodywork
The vibration offers another sensation to rest your attention on. It can be a reminder to breathe and notice where you’re still holding tension while I work.
The purpose of adding VAT here is to support how you receive the bodywork.
The Barefoot Experience
Full-body massage with room for a focus
The Barefoot Experience is a flowing, full-body massage with a relaxation-focused approach. We can still give extra attention to a concern while maintaining the overall intention of a full-body experience.
I work primarily with my feet, using slow, broad, sustained pressure. Overhead bars provide balance and support so I can control the depth and pace.
Pressure generally ranges from medium-deep to deep, adjusted to your comfort and how your body responds.
Relaxation-focused describes the intention and flow of the session. The work can still be substantial, with time to address areas that need it.
How VAT fits into barefoot massage
During massage
Vibration adds another layer of sensation alongside the bodywork. I use it with the intention of helping you settle, return your attention to your breathing, and notice where you may still be bracing.
After massage
VAT becomes a quiet, touch-free ending. Similar to savasana, you have time to rest and settle into the experience before getting up and returning to your day.
This is the “therapeutic nap” option: the hands-on work has ended, and you continue receiving VAT while resting.
When you want more time for a particular area
You can extend your Barefoot Experience with 30 minutes of dedicated focus:
- Head, Neck & Jaw Focus: Attention to the head, neck, face, jaw, and scalp.
- Feet Focus: Unhurried attention to your feet, including a hot towel foot wrap and optional heated booties.
These additions provide dedicated time beyond the full-body massage.
VAT is included during the added 30-minute portion.
Focused Relaxation Experiences
Local massage, a broader sensory experience
Sometimes you want focused attention to an area and the opportunity to settle into receiving.
The 60-minute Focused Relaxation Experiences are standalone appointments with slow, unhurried massage, minimal repositioning, and little active participation.
Choose from:
Head, Neck & Shoulder Immersion
Dedicated attention to the head, neck, and shoulders, including the scalp, face, and jaw. The appointment is devoted to these connected areas.
Foot Immersion
Dedicated attention to your feet, including unhurried massage, a hot towel foot wrap, and heated booties.
How VAT fits into focused relaxation
The massage is devoted to the selected areas. VAT is included during part of the session, providing vibration through the table for a broader sensory experience while those areas receive massage.
You don’t have to meditate or concentrate on the vibration. You can simply receive the experience.
The Vibroacoustic Experience
VAT on its own
VAT is also available without massage.
During The Vibroacoustic Experience, you remain fully clothed while low-frequency sound is converted into gentle vibration through the table.
The program is selected around your goals and comfort, and the appointment includes time to settle in and reorient afterward.
I use this experience with the intention of supporting physical relaxation, mental quiet, and body awareness. Some people enjoy it as meditative time; others simply appreciate having space to receive without needing to do anything.
It may appeal to people who prefer not to be touched or find massage pressure uncomfortable.
If a health condition prevents you from receiving massage, contact me to discuss whether VAT is appropriate for your circumstances.
